Do flat feet cause wearing down of heels in shoes?

Ever feel like your heels wear out way too fast? Like your favorite shoes are giving up on life way before their time? If you’ve got flat feet, that might just be the culprit. So yes, flat feet can definitely contribute to uneven heel wear in shoes.

Flat feet cause wearing down of shoes

How can flat feet cause wearing down of heels in shoes?

Here’s the deal: flat feet (also known as fallen arches) tend to roll inward when you walk – a condition called overpronation. This means your weight isn’t evenly distributed, putting extra pressure on the inside of your heels. Fast forward a few months, and your flat feet have caused your heels to wear down.

Signs your flat feet might be wearing out your shoes

1 | Uneven heel wear

Check the bottom of your shoes. If one side (usually the inside) looks more worn out, overpronation could be to blame.

2 | Discomfort or pain

Flat feet can put extra strain on your ankles, knees, and even lower back. Worn-down heels might make it worse.

3 | Shoes feeling lopsided

If your shoes start feeling unstable or tilted to one side, it’s probably time for a new pair – or at least some supportive insoles.

Supportive shoes

(Most) of these supportive shoes feature a removable insole for your own orthotics.

What can you do?

1 | Start with good shoes

Not to toot our own horn, but Wolky shoes are designed exactly for situations like this. With built-in arch support, cushioning, and high-quality materials, they help keep your feet aligned and your shoes lasting longer.

2 | Try orthotic insoles

If your feet need extra support, slip in a pair of custom or over-the-counter insoles to add more stability.

3 | Retire those worn-out shoes

If the heels are super uneven, it’s time to say goodbye – they’ll do more harm than good.
